The aim of the Globelics PhD Academy is to support the training of PhD-students from all over the world writing theses on issues related to innovation systems.
The Academy brings together frontier researchers within innovation studies with PhD-students from developing countries, both to inspire and qualify their work and to help them to join high-quality research networks in their field of research.

In 2018 the thirteenth Globelics Academy will be convened in the City of Tshwane, in the Republic of South Africa. The 2018 edition of the International GLOBELICS Doctoral Academy is organised by the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI) of Tshwane University of Technology which co-hosts the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Scientometrics and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (SciSTIP) together with the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) of Stellenbosch University.

In Pretoria, the Academy is organised by the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI), Tshwane University of Technology and the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Scientometrics and Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (SciSTIP), hosted by IERI in the City of Tshwane. The local organizers include Chief Director Professor Rasigan Maharajh and Senior Lecturer and Research Fellow Erika Kraemer-Mbula, Institute for Economic Research on Innovation.
In Tampere, Research Director Erkki Kaukonen, Senior Researcher and academic coordinator Mika Raunio, and Head of Innovation Studies Mika Kautonen from the Research Center for Knowledge, Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (TaSTI), Unit for Science, Technology Innovation Studies, University of Tampere, are coordinating the Academy.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Academy was organized by the Research Network on Local Productive and Innovative Systems (Redesist), from the Economics Institute of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IE/UFRJ) and coordinated by Professor José Eduardo Cassiolato and Professor Marina Szapiro.
In Lisbon, the Academy was jointly organized by the Center for Innovation, and Policy Research, IN+, at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon and by the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (ISEG/UTL), the Economics and Business Administration Institute, Technical University of Lisbon. The secretariat and local coordination in Lisbon included professor Rui Baptista (IST) and professor Manuel Mira Godinho (ISEG).
Alumni Information
The first Globelics Academy Alumni meeting took place in connection with the Globelics Academy 2015, the 10th jubilee edition of the Academy, organized by the Research Center for Knowledge, Science, Technology and Innovation Studies (TaSTI/University of Tampere). Following Alumni meetings takes place in connection with the Globelics Conference – all alumni are welcome.
Initiatives from the Alumni include a joint journal special issue, “Exploring Methodologies for STI Research” (AJSTID), a joint publication on methodological tools and identification of topics for international research projects.
